Abhishek Kapoor, who was fighting a legal battle against the makers of Rock On!! for not providing him with the due credit for the movie, has finally emerged victorious. The Bombay High Court has ruled the verdict of the case in Abhishek’s favour.

Confirming the same, Abhishek’s lawyers, Hitesh Jain along with Birendra Saraf, who appeared for Abhishek Kapoor, said, “This is a huge relief for Abhishek Kapoor. He was fighting this legal battle to get his due credit for authoring the story jointly with Pubali Chaudhuri, which was denied by Excel Entertainment. Also, the order is a setback to body like Film Writers’ Association (FWA) that makes an artificial distinction between story and story idea and fails to protect the rights and interest of its own member writers.” Abhishek Kapoor, who made his Bollywood debut as director with Rock On!! had moved the Bombay High Court to stall the making of the sequel to the movie. The director claimed that he was not credited with the story which is being produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. Abhishek Kapoor had been working on the script of the sequel since September 2011 along with Pubali Chaudhuri. The two regularly exchanged emails while developing the concept. But now, Excel has solely credited the latter for the script.

Abhishek Kapoor had also applied to the Film Writers’ Association to register the script of Rock On!! 2 in his name and the association too had ruled in his favour.

Currently, Abhishek Kapoor is busy with his forthcoming film Fitoor. Ritesh Sidhwani remained unavailabe for comment.
